And This is Why China is Every Internet Company’s Wet Dream Tuesday, August 12, 2008 According to the latest government data, China now has 253 million Internet users, due to recent sharp growth - 56 percent from last year. The inevitable has happened: China now has more Internet users than the USA, which is at 223.1 million with 71% online penetration. The fact that the Chinese government is exercising very strict control and censorship over internet use has immensely slowed down the growth of Internet use in this country, but when you’ve got a population of over 1.3 billion, even a relatively small fraction of it is enough to become a global leader. Yes, the really amazing thing is the fact that the online penetration is China is mere 19.1 percent, way, way lower than the USA and most European countries. Financial facts are even more revealing: total revenues for all of China’s internet companies was $5.9 billion in 2007 while in the U.S. online advertising revenues alone in that same year were $21.2 billion. For companies such as Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and other giants, this means two ... Barbara Barbieri customer care responsabile vendite comunicazione marketing Mustang Ma About me Jessica H. Guanxi is out...resources are in Wednesday, November 21, 2007 Since I spend a fair amount of my time going back and forth between China and the UK, I thought some of you might be able to confirm something I've noticed recently. Last year, most Chinese were still happily using the word Guanxi. It is very important to have good guanxi. My guanxi is very good...blah blah blah. Recently (since summer 07), I have noticed that the Chinese I've met are becoming more sophisticated and that they are using the word Guanxi less. Let's face it, most of the world works on "it's who you know, not what you know". Giving it the name Guanxi and using this word frequently is unnecessary. What I have found is that more and more chinese are using the word "Resources", "zi yuan" or "资源" in place of the word guanxi. So, "I have good resources in the Oil and Gas industry" means just the same as "I have good guanxi in the Oil and Gas industry". I'd be interested to hear if people think this is rubbish (hopefully not, since I have started saying it at the cultural training ... |

Interest in HK Hotels Thursday, October 18, 2007 We are searching for direct contact with principal 4 and 5 star hoteliers in Hong Kong to fulfill our client's request for such properties. I am hoping that, through the use of this hub and the professionals here, we can either be introduced to these direct contacts or the legal representative of these contacts. These potential properties must be rated, 4 or 5 star, full serve, operational, have a reasonable avg. mkt cap. rate, run equal to or above average ADO, include FF&E, and if mngmt contract in place - must be flexible. Flagged and un-flagged are both acceptable. Our buyers do not require financing and can POF at an LOI stage provided the property meets all their parameters. Please no broker chains. Thank you |
What's your Favourite Dimsum restaurant??? Thursday, August 16, 2007 Personally, I am a big fan of Royal China. I tend to go to either Baker St branch, or Queensway. Their dimsum is always fresh, steaming hot and delicious. My one complaint is - PRICE OF THE VEGETABLES. A plate of Kailan for £8 or £9 really is quite steep guys!!! My latest good dimsum was had at Dragon Castle (金龙堡)at Elephant and Castle. Aside from the grimy walk from the Tube to the restaurant, this place really made my Sunday. The staff are trying hard, the food is delicious, and it;s really cheap! Also....and this will mean something to anyone who's tried Royal China at a weekend - there were no queues. You can even book a table. Incredible. Really recommend the Scallop Cheung Fun....mmmm Ok...so I've done my bit. Let us all know where your favourite Dimsum places are, and what you like or don't like about them. Daniel Nivern Director, China Consulting |
