What makes a good coach
Thursday, October 25, 2007

I never cease to be amazed at the number of coaches out there these days! To think that only ten years ago few people outside of pro sports had coaches.

So what makes a good coach? How do you tell a good coach from a bad coach - I hear/read that there a lot of bad coaches out there (although I have never used a coach - other than in rugby or football and they mostly just screamed at you!) Some even linked with cults and scams (or do I read the Daily Mail too much :)).

Is it a qualification (if so which qualifications are recognised and what should you look for), is it experience and recommendations from other clients. Is the fact that a coach works well with one person a guarantee that they will work well with another?

How do good coaches keep the profession from being tarnished by less professional coaches? What is the standard by which you judge being a good or bad coach anyway?

Is coaching here to stay? Or will it go the way of 'having a shrink' in the 70s and 80s - something that seems bizarre ...

Manager for this Hub
Thursday, October 25, 2007

Is anyone interested in becoming the Manager for this Hub? It is not too onerous. You can set the policy for the Hub and ideally you would be someone interested in keeping debate going - posting interesting articles, commenting on issues etc

Shirlaws coaching changed my business approach
Tuesday, August 14, 2007

Hi everyone I am new to Viadeo and the Hub but can readily see the potential. As my first contribution to the hub I would like to share the experience we (the board of Directors) have gone through since we engaged with a professional coaching company called Shirlaws. In particular I would like to share my peronal experince as this has made a poisitve step change in my career.

www.shirlawsonline.com

We engaged Shirlaws about 15 months ago as our company was very good at what we did (so our customers told us), but we failed to develop new clients on the scale we wanted. We tried all sorts of sales and marketing methods , even tried to sell the odd product to get a foot in the door all to no avail. So we engaged Shirlaws after being introduced to them through another client of theirs at a consultants forum. The initial engagement was very easy and low cost and they very quickly helped us work out where we were going wrong. The key here is they helped us understand, they didn't bowl up borrow our watch and tell ...

Hi everyone

OK, so you may ahve read this somewhere else, before ...
It seems a bit cold and lonely in/out here/there so thought I'd just say a quick hello.
I work in Toulouse, South West France (most people know where it is now after the recent news regarding Airbus).
I own a coaching / consulting and training company with services delivered in French or English.
Recent missions have been a three day International teambuilding seminar, 360° feedback mission to assist internal mobility in a French company, coaching a director of a French company to assume new roles and assert himself, A benchmarking between 2 factory units in Southern France.

You can see my first efforts at a website - it is quite organic and will be moving and improving - time is an uissue at the moment.

I have been a member of Viaduc (sic) for getting on for 3 years and have just started weaving on the English side.

The reason for joining some of the UK hubs is to try to find new clients and missions in UK as I feel there is ...
