CRH announces appointment of Chairman Designate Wednesday, February 28, 2007 The Board of CRH today appointed Mr. Kieran McGowan as Chairman Designate, to succeed the present Chairman Mr. Pat Molloy. Mr. Molloy, who has been Chairman since May 2000 and a Board member since 1997, will retire after the Company’s Annual General Meeting, which is scheduled for 9th May 2007. Mr. McGowan, who joined the Board of CRH in 1998, was Chief Executive of IDA Ireland until December 1998. He is a non-executive Director of a number of companies including Elan Corporation plc, Irish Life & Permanent plc and United Drug plc. He is also a Director of Enterprise Ireland and Chairman of the Governing Authority of University College Dublin. |
Successful 5th Bretby Conference Sunday, February 11, 2007 Successful 5th Bretby Conference 2006 for the heavy clay sector International News The fifth seminar of the ceramic industry in Great Britain, held on the 21st and 22nd November 2006 at the Bretby Conference Centre in Burton on Trent, was accompanied by the annual conference of the International Clay Technology Association (ICTa). Over 230 participants from five countries acquired information on the subject: “Manufacturing Clay Products – The Future” and 30 exhibitors presented their programmes for the ceramic industry. The conference was organized by IOM Communications Ltd. with the participation of the ICTa and the Ceramics Department at the Institute for Materials Science, Mineralogy and Mining. CRH performed strongly in 2006 Saturday, January 20, 2007 CRH performed strongly in 2006. First half activity benefited from an especially strong performance from our operations in the Americas and an improved performance in Europe resulting in a euro 143 million increase in profit before tax to euro 526 million (2005: euro 383 million). In the second half, trading across our European businesses gathered momentum and, although US residential construction declined, our American operations continued to perform well. Contributions from our 2006 acquisitions were in line with expectations but the high level of acquisition spend, coupled with rising interest rates, resulted in a significant increase in financing costs. Against this backdrop and helped by generally favourable weather in the final months, profit before tax in the seasonally more significant second half will show a very satisfactory advance. As a result full year profit before tax is expected to be approximately euro 300 million ahead of the euro 1,279 million reported for 2005; this would represent an increase ... |
