Foundations Of Sand (Ecademy Profile) Saturday, September 13, 2008 Foundations Of Sand: Why Ecademy Has A Decided Advantage As The Social Network Market Leader (Ecademy Profile) “The social network community is on the verge of a monumental shift in which many of the networks that are in existence today will not be around tomorrow. By evolving beyond their technological origins, the core survivors will avoid the fate of the early lights, who like SixDegrees.com are destined to fade into historic insignifigance in much the same manner that CP/M ceded to the DOS platform in the early days of the personal computer.” From The White Paper “The Unsociable Business of Social Networks” (By Jon Hansen, Release Date January 2009) The following is an excerpt from a PI Q&A response posted not that long ago: As outlined in an overview of my latest seminar, “Social Networking and the Procurement Professional of the Future,” I express surprise that very few supply chain professionals know about Social Networking. Although there is a periphery understanding through mainstream ... |
Can you be transparent in Social Media? (A PI Q&A) Friday, September 5, 2008 Network Member Question Can you be transparent in Social Media? (Note: Please check out my thoughts on this question at http://echoinggreenbusiness.ning.com/profiles/blog/show?id=2301358%3AblogPost%3A64) Carmen Bracamonte President – LargerNet Trade Development and Management Tampa/St. Petersburg, FL My Response I just wrote an article titled “The Web 2.0 Association: A Dynamic Engagement Between Stakeholders Sharing The Same Interests And Goals (Canadian Public Procurement Council Profile)” – the link to which is in the Web Resources Section of this response. Equally telling was the level of reader response (see link below for one reader’s comments), and in particular the emergence of a common theme as illustrated by the following excerpt: “Associations could better leverage Web 2.0 to deliver a greater level of service to me as a supply chain professional by more actively, rapidly and efficiently aligning with the pace at which new, useful industry information becomes available – then ... |
The Web 2.0 Association: Reader Response (CPPC-CCMP Profile) Tuesday, August 26, 2008 Response to our recent sponsor profile articles is quite active with the posting on services procurement garnering more than 20 comments. As is our normal practice, I am more than pleased to share these comments with you starting with the feedback that was received from a supply chain professional in Panama regarding the August 20th post titled “The Web 2.0 Association: A Dynamic Engagement Between Stakeholders Sharing the Same Interests and Goals. Be sure to look for reader comments in future posts. From Lance, Global Logistics Specialist, Panama (Maersk Logistics) Where it once did, the value gained from the traditional Association model can no longer compete for my attention. I need to collaborate bigger, faster, stronger – and at my convenience. The Web 2.0 Association: A Dynamic Engagement Between Stakeholders Wednesday, August 20, 2008 Traditional membership models for many associations have become somewhat stagnate in that they are not effectively aligned with the emerging Web 2.0 world of dynamic engagement between stakeholders sharing the same interests and goals. According to CPPC-CCMP President Kathleen Muretti, recognizing and responding to this changing landscape is a key tenet of her council’s value proposition. Building on their “Together in the Public Eye” platform, the council leadership understands the unique challenges members face in a world of increased scrutiny and dynamic change. For this reason, organizations such as Muretti’s need to be more than a mere collection of names in which member count alone is the defining measurement of success. To be effective, the modern day council (or association, institute) needs to create and facilitate an environment in which an “active” and “timely” collaboration of ideas and ideals are the cornerstone of a relevant program of service. In fact Muretti, who stated in a recent ... |

Input needed into Canada’s Space Industry: New Web 2.0 Tool Friday, July 18, 2008 Ottawa, July 14 2008 - The Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA) is requesting public input into Canada’s future role in space exploration. An open forum has been created with opinion gathering software from Chide.it to analyze and act on feedback to a strategy-defining manifesto and call to action formulated by Canadian leaders involved in space research and industrial activities. The document offers a consensual framework to identify Canada’s vision to develop the ‘endless ecology’ of space. It also encourages feedback and suggestions from the public, private sector, businesses, and academia. With a framework that outlines the specific benefits of space exploration, such as the endless ecosystem, economic progress, conservation technologies, and competitive advantage, space industry leaders are looking for a consensus on Canada’s vision for future space policy. Comment On: The Next Evolution Web 3.0 Wednesday, July 2, 2008 I reviewed the above post by Craig Brown on June 27th and found it interesting. However, Web 3.0 is in reality the bridge to Web 4.0. And it is Web 4.0 that is critical to sustainable business success for the very reason that it represents the transition from a collective interface to a viable intelligent engagement mechanism capable of assembling and managing seemingly disparate streams of information into a collective outcome that has real-world applicability. Think of it this way, what is the common strand between Kodak's digital imaging marketing strategy, Higher Education supplier engagement programs and the development of regionalized Clusters? (Note: the link cannot be ascertained through the correlation of common words.) Of even greater importance, how does the the collective outcome of these individual elements impact you or your organization? Note: an added twist is that the collective outcome will likely be different for each individual. Web 4.0 would tell you this within a matter of ... Jon W. Addictive Stimulant + Social Network = Engaged Customers Friday, April 18, 2008 Although it seems like you can't go anywhere without encountering the iconic Starbucks mermaid (except, of course, under water) the company has been struggling of late. The economic downturn in the U.S. has consumers reconsidering whether they really need that $6 triple non-fat, low-foam cinnamon dolche latte every morning and afternoon, and are increasingly turning to the cheaper alternatives on offer from a resurgent McDonald's Corp. Critics also say that the Starbucks Experience - the atmosphere of the store, the preparation and consumption of the beverage - has lost its magic in recent years as food and non-food items compete for attention with the core coffee-based drinks. As part of a larger turnaround strategy, the company has turned to social media to re-engage their customers. At the company's recent annual shareholders' meeting, CEO Howard Schultz announced the launch of mystarbucksidea.com [http://www.mystarbucksidea.com], a social media site designed to solicit ideas from Starbucks customer ... |
Social Media and Web 2.0 Tool Overload: Are we Creating Business Value? Tuesday, April 15, 2008 I am hooked now into FaceBook,LinkedIn, Ning, Second Life, our internal wikis, email, MSN instant messaging, my blog, my RIM - and I am starting to wonder if I am wasting time trying to stay connected using the latest Web 2.0 Social Media tools and gadgets. One of the primary reasons I continue to forge ahead and use these social media tools is to research and understand the social phenomenon and impacts that these solutions are having on new business models and then translate this insight into valuable know-how or sense making for our clients at Helix Commerce (www.helixcommerce.com) A primary reason that social media applications are top of mind is because of our current CATA community research project focused on The Organization of the Future . This project is also in partnership with ITinCanada. As a result of this sense of overload - and I know I am not alone, we are starting to see another generation of simplification tools like AideRSS and FeedHub - just two examples of software tools trying to ... Social networking for business - time-waster or money-maker? Sunday, April 13, 2008 Entrepreneur Len Rosen was a sceptic about using social networks to boost his marketing business until his 23-year-old daughter introduced him to Facebook – and now he's totally converted. The sole proprietor of Toronto-based Len Rosen Marketing Inc. soon joined other social networking sites like LinkedIn and Xing. Running his marketing consultant business from home using contract employees, he finds the expertise he can easily access through these sites invaluable to the way he does business. “I'll put up a problem [in an area] where I don't have a lot of expertise and in a short amount of time, I'll get a response,” Rosen says. “That person becomes a virtual extension of my company, and suddenly I have an associate.” Rosen's Web site is now host to a growing list of associates he has never met in person. The relationships he manages online pay off in a big way for his small business. This is one example of the cusp of a trend – businesses looking at social networking sites to offer them ... |
