21st Century Governance Principles Network Update
Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Since launching the 21st Century Governance Principles knowledge sharing network last month on both LinkedIn and Ecademy, there has been insightful and thought provoking discussions and news.

Highlights include:

CSF Thought Leader Jack Rockart joins 21st Century LinkedIn Chapter

Jack Rockart, who is a Senior Lecturer Emeritus at the MIT Sloan School, has been credited with what has been referred to as “seminal IT” concepts, which include Critical Success Factors (CSFs) and Executive Support Systems (ESS).

One of my personal favourite pieces was his response to a question posed in the March – April 2000 issue of Harvard Business Review which asked “Are CIO’s Obsolete?”

I would like to invite you to take advantage of the opportunity to interact with Jack directly, starting with checking out the question that was recently posted in our group on the continuing relevance of CSF.

Demo Web 2.0 Office
Thursday, October 30, 2008

Ottawa, October 23, 2008…Canada's largest high tech trade association, CATAAlliance, will demo its Web 2.0 (aka the Bedouin office) at the upcoming GTEC Trade Show and Forum (October 28-30, 2008, Westin Hotel, Ottawa).

GTEC is considered Canada's most significant Convention on the use of technology to improve government services and operations. The GTEC 2008 focus is appropriately focused on 'Making the Shift to Government 2.0.'

"Work is not a place anymore -- it's a thing you do," says CATA President John Reid. "With the new relationship-building capacity of the Web, and enhanced and affordable tools for mobile workers, we can be 'at work' anywhere."

The term Bedouin Office was first coined by writers in San Francisco entrepreneur Greg Olsen, who described local 'digital nomads' as "Bay Area Bedouins'. Tired of pouring his start-up money into new office headquarters, Greg focused on a service-based and full mobility infrastructure using laptops and cell phones, allowing people to set up shop wherever ...

High Tech Community Backs Ottawa Mayor’s Task Force
Report on e-Government: Canada’s largest high-tech
association urges citizens to get involved, give
input;creates social network powered by IGLOO Software

Ottawa, Ontario, June 17, 2008 -- The Canadian
Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA) today praised a
City of Ottawa Task Force report advocating the
strategic leveraging of Information Technology (IT) to
improve access to city services and lower the cost of
service delivery.

“This is an extremely important report,” said CATA
Executive Vice President Barry Gander. “Our mantra
is:‘First the city, then the country’. We confirmed in
our TechAction Town Hall program that cities are the
engines of our nation -- they contain 95% of all
businesses and 80% of its population. In today's
'smart' economy, it is more important than ever that
our cities have the best possible foundation to
interact -- to share and coordinate the ideas,
cultures and enterprises that drive the country. The
Task ...

Going Bedouin: Best of breed technologies combined...
Friday, May 9, 2008

Ottawa, May xx, 2008…Canada’s largest high tech trade
association, CATAAlliance, announced the launch of its
"Going Bedouin” program as part of a full-mobility
business infrastructure model.

“Work is not a place anymore -- it’s a thing you do,”
said CATA President John Reid. “With the new
relationship-building capacity of the Web, and enhanced
and affordable tools for mobile workers, we can be ‘at
work’ anywhere.”

The term Bedouin Office was first coined by writers in
San Francisco entrepreneur Greg Olsen, who described
local ‘digital nomads’ as “Bay Area Bedouins’. Tired
of pouring his start-up money into new office
headquarters, Greg focused on a service-based mob
infrastructure. Now, like their namesake Bedouin who
roam looking for green pastures, the new digital
Bedouins carry laptops and cell phones, and set up shop wherever there is an Internet connection.

Reid said the Bedouin Office would give CATA’s members
a number of advantages:
