PAC Study on the Future of Software in Europe: First Results Available!

In April 2009, PAC won a major contract with the European Commission - DG Information Society and Media - to help define the future of the software industry in Europe.

The PAC-led consortium includes IDATE in France, Fraunhofer ISI in Germany, and London Economics in the UK. This team of market, economic and policy experts will work with DG Information Society and Media to identify the economic and social impact of software and software-based services in Europe.

Under the terms of the agreement, the consortium will propose a set of policies to encourage the growth and competitiveness of the software and IT services industry in Europe.

Over the course of the project, the consortium will consult a representative set of stakeholders. Face-to-face interviews will be conducted on a range of topics, including packaged software, open source, mobility, Web 2.0, cloud computing, Internet of things, IT services, national trade associations, venture capital, and end-user adoption trends.

The results of this project will be presented during a workshop hosted in June 2010 at the European Commission in Brussels.
