Ahilya London presents shawls, stoles and scarves for men and women in pure pashm with a trendy English twist
Ahilya aims at showcasing exquisite embroided and woven stoles, shawls and scarfs. We go all the way to Kashmir to find exceptional textiles and work with craftsmen whose families have been weaving shawls for generations.
We carry textiles made of real pashm, a fabric woven from the under-fleece of the pashmina goat, capra hircus. This mountain goat can only be found in high altitudes.
Nearly all of the shawls and stoles found on the western market today are made of blends of silk and wool softened through a chemical process. They are produced on power-looms.
As an example, on a hand-loom, a plain shawl takes 20 days to weave while it takes only 3 hours on the power loom. The power loom not only produces a uniform non individual piece but it also can't use pure pash which is too fragile for the machine.
Ahilya can guarantee the exact origin and quality of each and every piece of textile it carries. The prices reflects the amount of time spent to weave as well as to embroider each piece. That is what makes some pieces unique and so valuable.
