After graduating from Aberdeen University with a Masters degree in English, I undertook a month's intentive TESOL course and went to teach English for 9 months in Southern Italy. I then worked for 18 months as a customer services supervisor in a technical recruitment company before moving into estate agency, and spent three years valuing and selling houses in Berkshire & Surrey.
A natural aptitude for advising clients on how to make the most of their homes, together with my study of interior design and soft furnishings, resulted in me setting up a home image consultancy in 2003. In the summer of that year I met a media agent, auditioned for the BBC, and for the past 3 years have been presenting 'To Buy Or Not To Buy' on BBC1, as well as featuring on other property shows.
I recently branched into presenting corporate DVDs, and for the past few years have been able to indulge my passion for writing, contributing regularly to interior style magazines such as ‘BBC Good Homes’ and ‘Concept for Living', as well as undertaking various freelance commissions for publications including 'Just Bulgaria' and the Cityscape Asia exhibition supplement. Article subjects have included emerging markets, interior trends, options for investing in property, and the Hong Kong commercial market, and I'm happy to tackle anything property-related and beyond!
As a theatre host, speaker and expert panelist, I have appeared at property shows and exhibitions around the UK, including BBC Good Homes, Invest in Property, RETV Live, Homes Overseas and Business Startup.
I am also affiliated with Property Know How, the UK’s leading one-to-one property investor education company offering tailor-made mentoring programmes, and I endorse the business in seminars and through their website, as well as working freelance within their communications department.
In addition, I have experience of writing website copy, company newsletters and proof reading.
