Montesquieu Wines

company
For over 400 years, Montesquieu has celebrated small production, boutique wines and family vineyards. We pride ourselves in discovering hidden gems - vineyard properties steeped in tradition and from which the wine is a reflection of the terroir and local culture. We promise you won't find the same names and vintages here that you find everywhere else.

There are hundreds of family owned vineyards all over the world that have been passed down from generation to generation. Typically their wines never make it to the United States. Often, these wineries only produce a limited amount of wine, less than 500 cases. In fact, sometimes we come across an absolutely amazing wine with a run of just 40 to 50 cases. While major U.S. importers may overlook them, these small quantity runs are what we seek out and choose to represent. And if you're among the fortunate few lucky enough to acquire these wines, we promise that you'll experience a true work of art.

Montesquieu Wines

Company
The name Montesquieu may be familiar. You probably learned about him in your American history class. Charles-Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu was a philosopher whose influential work, "Spirit of Laws" touted the theories of separation of powers and greatly influenced the shaping of the U.S. Constitution.

Not only was the Baron committed to the ideals of freedom, he was also passionate to the art of winemaking. Montesquieu was simply in love with Bordeaux; the land, the grapes - everything. He was particularly dedicated to the vines. Montesquieu was one of the founders of the concept of terroir, and of planting only the best vines to create fine wine. His meticulous approach to winemaking was a catalyst in the development of Bordeaux's first growth Chateaus. For those of you who love the Cabernet Sauvignon grape, you can thank the Baron, for he was the man first to identify the grape back in 1737.

And now, generations later, the spirit of Montesquieu lives on as his winemaking techniques and beliefs are carried on by the Montesquieu family.
