Why bid management for such a long time?

I have developed a real passion for taking up the challenge of managing two often conflicting aspects of the job: closely teaming up with sales to build the winning offer, whilst acting as a neutral element safeguarding the company's interests (risk mgt, financial thresholds, stakeholder buy-in, etc).
