Jean Duval is an illustrator, creative consultant and animation film director. Jean started to work in animation in the 80's, as layout artist for television series in various French studios. In 1989, he is hired by Paul and Gaëtan Brizzi (directors of Fantasia 2000's "The Firebird Suite" section) as a storyboard and layout artist on various commercials such as Mattel and Nestlé, television series and films, including Babar the elephant and Astérix. In the early 90's, the Brizzi brothers' studio is bought by The Walt Disney Company and Jean worked as layout artist and assistant animator on several popular television series including "Goof Troop", "Tale Spin", "Darkwing Duck", television specials such as "Winnie the Pooh and Christmas Too" and feature films such as "Duck Tales the Movie". At the same time, Jean was storyboarding the live action feature films "A Far Off Place" (for Walt Disney Pictures and Amblin Entertainment) and the unreleased "The Power of Love" (for Paramount). In 1993, with the desire to embrasse the whole catalog of Disney characters, Jean Duval moved to Disney Consumer Products, Europe Middle East & Africa. Starting as a character artist, Jean ended up as creative director in charge of global character and product development (including all Disney characters from Mickey Mouse to Monster Inc.) for Disney Licensees such as Lego, Mattel, Nestlé, Donaldson, etc... In 2003, Jean started a new career as an independent, working on "Arthur Bigantall" style guide for Luc Besson's company Europacorp (movie released in early 2006) and "The Magic Roundabout" style guide for Pathé Pictures and films Action, who also asked him to take in charge the direction of the movie itself. "The Magic roundabout" is Jean Duval's first 3D animated feature film as a director. | |
