Having completed my degree in 2005 I decided to take time out to travel and to fufill my dream of working on board cruise ships. This was an exciting journey which took me across 40 countries in the space of 18 months.
I have always been interested in public relations and in marketing and that is what I wish to pursue a career in. My time spent on the cruise ships was relevant in some ways as it allowed me to develop my interpersonal skills and my marketing skills. As Casino Host, you are the face of the casino and you are in charge of publicising the casino as effectively as possible.

I wanted to take a gap year and travel following my degree and working on a cruise ships was the best option as I could work as I travelled. I travelled across forty countries through Europe, South America and Antarctica and was in charge of marketing the casino via different media. A huge part of this role was being the first point of contact and resolving any issues which a guest might have. As a result, I became very effective at reacting to a variety of situations. I also communicated the casino’s activities to the staff and worked with them to brainstorm new promotional ideas. In addition, I compiled analytical files to analyse the success of the casino’s promotional efforts. | |

I drafted and proof read numerous press releases, letters and reports which required much creative thought and attention to detail as well as the ability to manage the work load to meet the tight deadlines. I also attended the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes to schedule global press interviews for the event. This involved creating a proficient system to compile a detailed agenda which ensured that journalists and interviewees adhered to the schedule. | |
