While studying Management Control, I discovered the importance of information systems and also that I was interested in computers, thanks, also, to my several professional experiences.
I have really enjoyed those experiences, and so I decided to choose for my last year at university to do a double competence diploma “DESS Informatique de Gestion” (which can be translated in postgraduate diploma of business applications).
I am now a consultant in Business Intelligence for Methys France (www.methys.com). We are specialized on finance and management control in Business Intelligence area. And me, I am trying to specialize on Hyperion (now Oracle) softwares like HFM (Hyperion Financial Management).
This firm allow me to use my management and my computer sciences knowledges.
My professional experiences before Methys :
#2005-2006: secretary-general of the Controle9 Organization (organization of the management control channel of Dauphine), I was in charge, with other members of the activity of our forum, and the updates of our website (www.controle9.fr.fm)
#July-August 2005: Management control training inside the Group Société Générale (website of the bank: http://www.socgen.com)
I worked under the vigilance of the “UC Paris 5” manager (UC = “Unité commerciale” which can be translated in commercial unit) and of the chief of the management control service of the “DEC Paris Seine Amont” (“Direction d'Exploitation Commerciale” which can be translated in management of commercial operation).
For my first month, I only worked for the manager of the UC who entrusted me 2 missions:
_ the creation of a tool which had to help driving his agencies (I used Excel and VBA)
_ the closure of idle contracts in collaboration with the client counselors.
For my second, and last, month, I was also working with the controller who, seeing what I was doing for the manager of the UC, asked me to help him for the preparation of the 2006 budget of the DEC.
He also entrusted me with 2 other missions:
_to update and complete some Excel files that he had created.
_to extend the tool, which I was creating for the UC Paris 5, to the whole agencies of the DEC (which includes the agencies of the 5th, 13th and 14th “arrondissements” of Paris).
This training allowed me to see a controller in action and so, to learn much more from this job.
#Saturdays: October 05 – June 06 / October 04 – June 05: Trainee at the Group Société Générale, “Rhin et Danube” agency (city: Boulogne):
Every Saturday, I worked in this small agency of the group. I had several tasks: counter, switchboard, reception of the customers, inventory and filing when there were not a lot of customers.
This job permitted me to have contacts with the customers, which I did not have the opportunity to do in my former summer jobs. Furthermore, I learned how an agency works at different levels: commercial, logistic (to note down the stocks which has to be renewed, to remove out-of-date leaflets) …
#August 2003 and 2004: holiday auxiliary at the Société Général, Jean Jaurès agency (city: Boulogne):
During these 2 months, I welcomed the customer, I was also switchboard operator and in charge of the filing.
Thanks to that position, I learnt how works an agency (the commercial way).
