In this project I was in charge of studying different open source database systems to check if it was possible for the company to switch from Oracle to another system. This study was covering technical and financial issues. Then I ran tests on the different systems to see if the client's needs were fully and properly covered.

This project helped me improve my database skills. I learned a lot about database administration and optimization.

I did this project under my Bachelor of Engineering Honours. I had to develop a Java application using Java 1.5 that could interact with some infra-red sensors. The purpose of this application was to use the infra-red sensors as a pedestrian tracking system to follow people and study their behaviours in a closed area.

The first use of the system was a project called "I can walk my name" where people could see their trajectories on a plasma screen as they were walking under the sensors. I had to develop the graphical user interface using SWING to display the trajectory on the screen and then a label printing application so people could keep a souvenir of the experience.

The primary aim of this project was to get people to interact with the sensor system and associated display so that their interest is aroused and thus it was possible to communicate about other uses of the system.
